Knee Replacement
Knee replacement is a common surgical procedure to fix a knee damaged by arthritis or knee injury. It’s also commonly called knee arthroplasty and total knee replacement. The goal of the surgery is to resurface parts of the knee that are damaged and to relieve pain and offer better mobility for the patient.
The surgery uses metal and plastic components to replace parts of the knee. This surgery may be helpful for someone who has severe arthritis, a severe knee injury or chronic knee pain.
This surgery takes 1-3 hours and is done under general anesthetic. Recovery time in the hospital is 2-3 days.
Hip Replacement
A hip replacement is a common surgery where a damaged hip joint is replaced with an artificial one called a hip prosthesis. Most hip replacements occur in patients aged 60-80 due to age-related osteoarthritis but adults of any age may require a hip replacement from common inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or hip injury.
Most people reclaim full range of motion after their hip replacement surgery and they have a significant reduction in pain.
The surgery last 60-90 minutes and is done under a general anesthetic. Recovery time in hospital is normally 3-5 days. Artificial hip joints are normally designed to last for a minimum of 15 years.
Shoulder Surgery
Shoulder surgery is a very common orthopedic, surgical procedure and its goal is to help patients retain or reclaim their full range of movement. There are several conditions which may require shoulder surgery including, rotator cuff injury, frozen shoulder, shoulder impingement and shoulder arthritis.
Shoulder surgeries can be done with a general anesthetic or a regional block depending on the procedure and the doctor. Some surgeries can be performed as an outpatient procedures and others may require 1-2 days recovery in hospital.
